Whilst it was his realistic novels which never found an audience (and perhaps deservedly so), Mormon writer Horselover Fat's output of science fantasy caused him consternation.

He had to sell it to earn a living, but he despised the audience for whom he wrote.

He blamed his failure to earn position in the LDS solely on the popularity of his "out there stuff" like surreal science fantasy novel, 'The Man Whose Opinions Were All Exactly Alike'.
